Australia commissions first MH-60R Seahawk simulator
The first of two Royal Australian Navy MH-60R Seahawk 'Romeo' flight simulators has been commissioned into service, the defence ministry announced on 27 March.
The second simulator is expected to be delivered in 2016. The two simulators are part of a training system to prepare navy crews for advanced maritime combat operations from navy ships all over the world.
The training system is part of a $2.48 billion investment to deliver 24 new Seahawk Romeo naval combat helicopters. It includes two full motion flight simulators and a wide range of maintenance trainers for training the navy's Seahawk Romeo crews across various operational and mission-related training scenarios.
HMAS Albatross in Nowra, has already started training Seahawk Romeo crew. It has a training capacity of around 80 students a year, including pilots, aviation warfare officers, sensor operators, and maintenance personnel.
The Seahawk Romeo helicopters are on schedule to achieve an initial operational capability at sea by August 2015.
