AUSA Global: Army could shift FVL focus to lighter option

Army leaders may shift their Future Vertical Lift (FVL) focus to a lighter, attack reconnaissance helicopter in the wake of the Pentagon's new National Defense Strategy (NDS).

Speaking with reporters 27 March at the AUSA Global Force conference, Vice Chief of Staff Gen James McConville said that the NDS's focus on lethality has service leaders reexamining their FVL strategy. One of the key questions revolves around whether to first pursue a smaller, more lethal attack reconnaissance helicopter, a medium-sized long-range assault helicopter or both together.
