AUSA Aviation 2010: CIRCM programme moving ahead

The US Army is on the verge of releasing a request for proposals (RfP) for a new directed infrared countermeasures system to defend helicopters against man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS) and other heat-seeking munitions, according to industry sources.

In what interested companies have been told will be an "aggressive" procurement timetable, an RfP for the Common Infrared Countermeasures (CIRCM) initiative is expected to be issued by the end of February, with contract award by September 2010.
