The US Army is currently looking for a new generation of rotorcraft to replace some of its in-service helicopters through its Future Vertical Lift (FVL) programme.

Bell Helicopter and Boeing/Sikorsky have been selected to develop rotorcraft that could inform future FVL requirements.

Bell has designed the V-280 Valor while Boeing and Sikorsky opted for a coaxial design with the SB>1 Defiant. The first flights of the aircraft demonstrators are scheduled for 2017.
