AUSA 2012: ASU Baltija offering new lightweight Mi-17 cockpit armour

Helicopter MRO and Mi-8 engineering specialist firm ASU Baltija has unveiled a new armour kit for the Mi-17.

The company, in conjunction with partners US-based Flight Test Aerospace, developed the kit as part of the modernisation of three Mi-17s for the Rwandan Ministry of Defence.

ASU says the conformal armour is designed to blend in with the shape of the aircraft, but only has half the weight penalty of Russian-designed armour kits. The armour weighs in at 200 kg (440 lb).
