AUSA 10: Boeing secures Apache Block III contract

Boeing has been awarded a $247 million contract to launch low rate initial production (LRIP) for the US Army’s AH-64D Apache Block III attack helicopter.

Announcing the award of the contract at the Association of the US Army’s annual conference on 26 October, Colonel Shane Openshaw, programme manager for the Apache, said Block III of the aircraft was an ‘important game changing capability’ for the Apache.

The contract, which was signed on 22 October, covers the initial production of eight Apache Block III aircraft, with the delivery of the first scheduled for October 2011.
