ASaC Sea Kings to provide election overwatch

The Royal Navy's Airborne Surveillance and Area Control (ASaC) Sea Kings are to be deployed to Afghanistan for the country's elections this summer.

The deployment, announced last week, will be part of an enlarged contingent of British troops being sent to Afghanistan for the duration of the elections which will see numbers of swell from 8,300 to 9,000.

The Sea King ASaCs will be flown by crews from 845 Naval Air Squadron, who have been working up with the aircraft in recent months.
