Analysis: Sikorsky purchase great gain for Lockheed Martin

While the purchase of Sikorsky by Lockheed Martin places the company on a good long-term footing, it is unlikely that other OEMs will be ‘losing any sleep’ over the announcement, according to industry analysts.

After much anticipation and many murmurs, Lockheed Martin announced it is to purchase helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky from United Technologies (UTC).

The $7.1 billion acquisition is set to be completed by the end of the year or early 2016, with Sikorsky to be aligned under its Mission Systems and Training (MST) business segment.
