Airbus opens H215 production in Romania
Airbus Helicopters has opened a production unit for its H215 medium-size utility helicopter in Ghimbav, Romania, it was announced on 13 September.
The company plans to start production at the unit in 2017, and build 15 H215 helicopters per year by 2020. The company says that the H215 is popular with air forces, coast guards and police units.
The 10,000sqm facility has been built with an investment of approximately $58.4 million. The facility is currently the only one in Eastern Europe that functions both as a maintenance centre and as a repair centre.
The H215 helicopter comes in two versions – one for aerial work/utility duties and another for multi-role operations. The helicopter can be used a variety of missions including parapublic services, law enforcement, medical evacuation and search and rescue.
It can carry 19 passengers or 22 troops, along with two pilots. During aerial work and utility missions, the H215 can accommodate heavy internal loads. It has the ability to install a hydraulic hoist, as well as a cargo sling with maximum load of 4,500kg.
