Airbus Helicopters has opened an engineering design office at Łódź, expanding its presence in Poland, the company announced on 19 February. A wide range of mechanical design activities will be assigned to the new facility.

The activities, which will cover commercial and military helicopters, will focus on upcoming technologies in areas like rotorcraft drive systems and equipment. The design work will also cover modernisation of existing rotorcraft types and new-design platforms.

The new office, which is located at the Forum 76 Business Center in Łódź, is the fourth facility established by the company in Europe.

Guillaume Faury, president, Airbus Helicopters, said: ‘We see a significant potential from Poland, particularly with its young and skilled engineers who can contribute to a new way of bringing innovation to our products and systems.

'Our goal is to have Airbus Helicopters Polska directly involved with us in many fields, including organisation, processes and design. This underscores our commitment to working with Poland for the long term.’

The company has been in Poland for over ten years. Development of its X3 high-speed hybrid demonstrator aircraft was assisted by the Lodz University of Technology’s work on propellers, aerodynamic optimisation and engine integration.

Polish engineers also have contributed to the development of the Tiger attack helicopter and the EC725 Caracal multi-role-helicopter.
