Afghan Air Force struggling to operate MD 530 fleet

Afghanistan's air force is still consistently reliant on contractor intervention ‘to perform the majority of maintenance and sustainment activities’ on MD 530 light attack helicopters, according to a new report assessing Afghan defence forces capabilities, by the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

Efforts on the part of the Afghan Air Force to ‘independently conduct MD 530 helicopter operations’ are limited to ‘short intervals’, the report also confirms.
