AAR’s component repair support work for Boeing’s US Army CH-47 Helicopter Recapitalization Program is to be continued and expanded under a new contract win announced on 21 May. The five-year general terms agreement for Multi Year II increases the company’s work on the initial Multi Year I programme.

The contract will see AAR overhaul multiple components on the CH-47 Chinook helicopter. The programme, lead by Boeing, refurbishes ageing US Army CH-47 helicopters. The airframe is discarded and the components are harvested and sent out for repair and overhaul; with the refurbished parts put into a new airframe along with other modern upgrades.

AAR has already received more than 300 units from Boeing, with the first units already repaired and overhauled and shipped back to Boeing.

Glenn Meyers, vice president, military programs, AAR, said: ‘Boeing tried AAR and appreciated our performance and the cost savings we provided, which led to this expansion. The recapitalisation programme is important to our nation's security and our military's effectiveness, which AAR is always proud to support.’

With the CH-47 helicopter continuing to figure strongly in the US Army’s troop support, logistics and humanitarian relief efforts for military operations around the world, the recapitalisation programme aims to keep the CH-47 up-to-date at significant cost reduction for the US government.
