Seven companies sign agreement with Team Tempest
Bombardier Belfast, Collins Aerospace in the UK, GE Aviation UK, GKN Aerospace, Martin-Baker, QinetiQ and Thales UK have signed agreements with Team Tempest to work on future combat air concepts and underpinning technologies for the UK’s sixth-generation fighter aircraft.
Collectively, the companies will support more than 60 technology demonstration activities which are currently underway to demonstrate and de-risk processes and technology for Tempest.
‘This is the first phase of organisations to sign such agreements, with more to be announced,’ BAE Systems announced on 20 July. ‘The announcement represents a significant step forward by bringing additional expertise into the Team Tempest project.’
Team Tempest involves BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, MBDA UK, Rolls-Royce and the UK MoD. Also on 20 July, Saab announced it was creating a UK hub for Tempest work.
Dave Holmes, manufacturing director for BAE Systems Air, said: ‘We are seeking opportunities to widen the Team Tempest project and bring in the very best of UK capability and expertise, from both inside and outside of defence.’
