Norway and US continue solid fuel ramjet tech partnership
The Department of Defense (DoD) and the Norwegian Ministry of Defence will continue with the Tactical High-speed Offensive Ramjet for Extended Range (THOR-ER) programme for research on solid fuel ramjet technology.
THOR-ER is an Allied Prototyping Initiative being led by the Directorate for Advanced Capabilities and involves the Naval Air Warfare Centre, the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and Nammo.
In a DoD statement released on 20 April, Michael Griffin, Undersecretary for Research and Engineering said: ‘This continuation is an important next step in advancing high-speed propulsion technologies with our Norwegian partners.’
He added that: ‘It will drive fielding of the critical technologies needed to ensure US and Allied military superiority in hypersonic systems.’
