Northrop Grumman continues AARGM production for USN
Northrop Grumman, on 23 April, secured a $165 million contract for Lot 9 full rate production of the AGM-88E Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM) for the USN.
The AARGM is a joint defence acquisition programme between the USN and the Italian Air Force and has been integrated into the weapon system of the FA-18C/D Hornet, the FA-18E/F Super Hornet, the EA-18G Growler and the Tornado Electronic Combat and Reconnaissance (ECR) aircraft.
Gordon Turner, VP of advanced weapons at Northrop Grumman, said: ‘AARGM provides the US Navy and allies unmatched protection to detect and defeat surface-to-air threats regardless of threat tactics and capabilities.’
Each AGM-88E unit costs approximately $615,000 and was first delivered in 2012. Along side the US and Italy, a small number of AARGMs have also been received by Australia according to Shephard’s Defence Insight.
