SGA14: Rafael introduces Iron Beam laser weapon system
Iron Beam, Rafael’s new High-Energy Laser (HEL) system demonstrator, has made its debut at the Singapore Airshow.
The system is designed to intercept close-range rockets, mortars and small UAVs through separately located high power fiber optic laser beams. It can be used as a stand-alone system, or with external cueing to defence critical assets as part of air-defence systems.
A surveillance system detects the threat, after which a medium FOV sensor performs course tracking, and a narrow FOV sensor fine tracking, before one or multiple laser beams engage and destroy the target within 4-5 seconds.
