China shows off seven ballistic missiles
Central to China’s massive military parade in Tiananmen Square in Beijing on 3 September were missiles of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Second Artillery Corps (SAC).
China’s nuclear forces, as well as conventional tactical missiles, come under the auspices of the SAC, a 100,000-soldier force. Seven missile types appeared in the awkwardly titled ‘Military Parade Marking the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War’.
Intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) were prominent with two types on display: the DF-5B and DF-31A.
