LIMA 2015: Saab on standby for SEA 1000

Although outside of Australia’s SEA 1000 submarine replacement programme, Saab Kockums is waiting to make a competitive bid.

Gunilla Fransson, senior VP and head of Saab Defence and Security told Shephard: ‘If government policy on this matter changes we stand ready to offer our capabilities to Australia and move forward with a proposal.’

Offers from Japan, France and Germany seem to have been shortlisted under Australia’s submarine procurement strategy, but there is still no formal acquisition path for the programme despite various on the hoof policy announcements by the Abbott government.
